An alert sheriff’s deputy arrested four people on charges including drug possession and possession of stolen property early Sunday morning when something about their car didn’t add up, a local sheriff’s spokesman said.

About 5 a.m. Sunday, Deputy Yesenia Guzman of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station was on regular patrol in Valencia when she spotted a car in the area of Sycamore Creek Road and Beech Creek Circle, Sgt. Ron Price said Sunday.

“She did a good job,” he said. “She was observant of something that was unusual.”

Guzman checked the license plate of the Dodge Charger and discovered it was registered to a BMW, he said.
Guzman pulled over the suspicious vehicle and found four occupants inside it.

“And she found that the VIN (vehicle identification number) did not match the plate.

“At that point, the driver confessed he had just stolen the vehicle,” Price said.

When Guzman searched the car she found a “previously stolen wallet” traced to a vehicle burglary in Saugus, he said.
A female passenger in the front seat was found to have keys that had been stolen during the same vehicle burglary, he said.

The two backseat passengers were each found in possession of methamphetamine.

All four were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The driver is charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and possession of stolen property.

The female passenger was charged with possessing stolen property.

The other two passengers were charged with drug possession.

All are expected to appear on charges in San Fernando Superior Court in the next couple of days.
