City plans road closures for Amgen Tour of California cycle race

Residents should plan for traffic delays

With the arrival of Lance Armstrong and the world's top cyclists with the Amgen Tour of California on Saturday, February 21 at noon, residents should plan on traffic delays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on a handful of roadways within the City.

Because the event is a cycling road race, it is necessary to expect traffic modifications on select local streets to accommodate this world class event. These areas also comprise some of the best viewing places to watch the Amgen Tour of California in action as it races through the City.

Community members should expect some delays or closures between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 21 at the following locations:

· McBean Parkway Northbound from Town Center Drive to Newhall Ranch Rd. and all intersections between including: Magic Mountain Parkway, Creekside Drive, Avenue Scott, Baywood Lane

· Newhall Ranch Rd. Eastbound from McBean Pkwy. to Bouquet Cyn and all intersections between including: Bridgeview Lane, Grandview Lane, Hillsborough Parkway, Nautical Lane

· Bouquet Canyon Rd. Northbound from Newhall Ranch Rd. to Vazquez Cyn. and all intersections between including: Best Buy/Citibank intersection, Espuella Drive, Festividad Drive, Seco Canyon Road, Camargo Drive, Alamogordo Road, Central Park, Centurion Way, Heidi Jo Lane, Haskell Canyon Road, Susan Beth Way, Sutters Pointe Drive, Urbandale Ave.

· Bouquet Canyon Rd. Northbound and Southbound from Wellston Dr. to Vasquez Cyn Rd. and all intersections between including: Wellston Drive, Plum Canyon Rd., Dot Street, Steve Jon Street, Russ Jay, Sue Drive, Benz Road, Fan Court, Pam Court, Hob Ct. David Way, Shadow Valley Lane, Hayfork Road, and Esquerra Road.

· Vasquez Cyn. from Bouquet Cyn. to Sierra Hwy and all intersections between including: Lost Creek Road, Burton Way, Vasquez Way, Meadstone Rdoad, and Gaspe Street.

· Sierra Hwy from Vasquez Cyn. to Sand Cyn. Rd. including Garyford Rd.

· Sand Cyn. Rd. from Sierra Hwy to Soledad Cyn. Rd and all intersections between including: Thompson Ranch Road, Vista Point Lane, North Silver Saddle Circle, Silver Saddle Circle.

· Soledad Cyn Rd. from Sand Cyn Rd. to Stone Crest Rd. and all intersections between including: 14 Fwy. on and off ramps, Prairie Lane, Oak Spring Canyon, Rue Entrée, Flower Park Drive, Poppy Meadow Street, Raquel Lane, Shadow Pines Bolevard., Mammoth Lane, Lang Station Road, Stone Crest Road.

· The Northbound Off Ramp from State Highway 14 to Sand Canyon Road will be susceptible to short term closure between noon and 1:00 p.m. and The Northbound off ramp to Soledad Canyon Road will be closed between noon and 1:00 p.m.

· The Southbound Off Ramp from State Highway 14 to Sand Canyon Road will be closed between noon and 1:00 p.m. and the Southbound off ramp from State Highway 14 to Soledad Canyon Road will remain open to access westbound Soledad Canyon Road.

Amgen Tour of California riders will continue via Soledad to right on Aliso Canyon, right on Angeles Forest, right on Angeles Crest to Pasadena.For a complete list of stage 7 start activities (located at the Westfield Valencia Town Center) and traffic alerts, visit www.santa-clarita.com/tourofca.

Travel in and out of Santa Clarita from the West side to Interstate 5 and the 14 is available via San Fernando Road and Lyons Avenue. Valencia Boulevard, Westbound Newhall Ranch Road to Highway 126 and I-5, and McBean Parkway Southbound will remain open. Magic Mountain Parkway will experience temporary delays between noon and 12:30 p.m.

The largest cycling event in America, the 2009 Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race presented by AEG that challenges the world's top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding 750-mile course from Sacramento to Escondido from February 14-22, 2009.
