On logic, liberated thinking and gun control laws

I really have to wonder at what passes for thinking in liberals. In his column — or maybe "rant" would be more accurate — on Wednesday, Gary Horton goes on a wild spree of finger-pointing about the failure of new gun control legislation at the federal level.

He demonizes everyone in sight: the National Rifle Association, Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, the Koch brothers, Lockheed ... well, the absurd list goes on.

Now, first of all, the NRA isnt some murky cabal; its actually an association comprised of and representing millions of voters, no different from the teachers and other unions that most leftists love.

McKeon is representing the interests of the majority of the voters who live in his district. These are just facts.

But more interesting was Horton’s attempt to link all this to the Boston bombers. Somehow, in Horton’s world, tougher gun laws would have somehow prevented their outrageous acts.

Really? Let’s see: they were willing to construct explosive destructive devices, a violation of federal law; deploy them to commit mass murder, a violation of state and federal laws; use illegally-obtained firearms to engage the cops in gunfights, also violating state and federal laws — and somehow some more gun control laws would have prevented all this?

What planet does Horton live on, anyway?

These guys were perfectly willing to break a plethora of state and federal laws to carry out their heinous acts, and somehow or another more gun control laws would have changed any of that?

Massachusetts state law already required gun permits for individuals to legally possess guns, yet another law they blithely ignored.

So how would new laws have changed that in any way?

As I said, it must be great to be a liberal and be so unfettered by logic in one’s thinking. Very liberating indeed.
