As the weather warms up, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station generally see an increase in activity in our community as more people are enjoying being outdoors. Unfortunately, we also tend to see a rise in criminal activity during the summer months. Now is the time to always remember to lock your doors and windows, secure your vehicles, and never leave you valuables in plain view (especially in parked vehicles). Remember to always close and lock garage doors, and if you see any suspicious activity or vehicles in your neighborhood, please call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station immediately at 661-255-1121.

I reviewed 12 Part-1 crimes this week in Newhall. Some of these crimes include:

A 2003 Toyota Tundra was reported stolen from the 24300 block of Chestnut Street on Tuesday, 04/16/2013 at approximately 5:00 a.m. At approximately 6:30 a.m. the victim located his own vehicle parked in the area of Costa Brava and Valle Del Oro. Deputies responded and returned the vehicle to the owner (ref -05148).

A petty theft was reported from the Old Town Newhall Library. Library staff found that nine DVD’s had been stolen from the library (ref -05287).

A residential burglary was reported in the 23500 block of Newhall Avenue on Wednesday, 04/17/2013, during the day-time hours. A laptop computer and Nintendo Wii was stolen (ref -05249).

A vehicle burglary was reported from Valle Del Oro and Newhall Avenue this week. The passenger side front window was smashed and a cell phone charger was stolen (ref -05360).

An assault with a deadly weapon / hot prowl burglary was reported on Thursday, 04/18/2013, during the day-time hours in the 21400 Grape Lily Circle. The victim reported he opened his garage door and saw two male Hispanics inside his garage. Upon seeing the victim one of the suspects ran towards him and grabbed him. The second suspect came from behind the victim and struck him with a hard blunt object. The victim fell to the ground and the suspects ran out of the garage. The victim drove himself to seek medical care. The victim found the suspects had stolen an air compressor, a generator, golf clubs and other items. The investigation is ongoing (ref -05286).

Deputies assigned to the Newhall area continue to be proactive in Zone 6. There were over 10 proactive arrests made by deputies working (Zone 6) Newhall this week.

Remember to report graffiti call (661)-25-CLEAN/ (661)-252-5326 or use the City's eService request system on the "Report Graffiti" tab.
