Saugus High senior and Canyons aquatics swimmer Tara Olson will continue her swimming career in college next season.

The Centurion committed earlier this month to swim for Northern Colorado, an NCAA Division I program competing in the Big Sky Conference.

“I’m so excited, I’m so happy that it’s over with and I can focus on the rest of my year and senior year and it’s really, really exciting,” Olson said.

Olson holds two school records at Saugus, as part of the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams.

She specializes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and 400-yard individual medley and expects to swim in similar events at the collegiate level, she said.

The Bears moved from Division II to Division I after joining the Big Sky in 2006.

“That was a plus. I really didn’t care which Division I went to, but being at a Division I school will be great,” Olson said. “They’re very competitive and I think it will be a great experience.”
