Buck needs a boulder of salt

As is usual in his columns, Kevin Buck took some big liberties with the truth in his column “It’s been a long and winding road” (April 16), in which he lauded Democrats for everything good in this country while blaming Republicans for everything bad.

But let’s take a look.

The most obvious omission, at least to me, is that in his recitation of the good and bad in recent presidents, he fails to mention Jimmy Carter at all.

Why? Embarrassment at the reality of Carter’s failures? Then that was probably the most accurate part of the whole column.

He claims that the 1964 Civil Rights Act is still under attack without explaining how, and he managed to miss saying that a higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats voted to pass it into law.

He implies Nixon was somehow responsible for the Vietnam War that he and fellow radicals protested; I guess that must mean that he’s ignorant of the fact that two Democrats — JFK and LBJ — got us into that war and it was Nixon who got us out.

He chides Reagan for 241 murdered Marines while giving Obama a complete pass for the thousands who have died in Afghanistan. Double standard, anyone?

He credits Clinton for all kinds of economic prosperity while failing to mention those policies came about only after the GOP took control of Congress in 1994 and forced them down Clinton’s throat.

I could go on, but why bother? I think my point is made.

Buck’s a rabid partisan, even to the point of rewriting history to suit his narrative and world view. What he writes should be taken with a boulder of salt.
