THOUSANDS OAKS, Calif. (AP) — A driver has been arrested after a wild police chase through Los Angeles and Ventura counties during which he nearly hit a school bus.

TV news helicopters followed the small convertible speeding along streets in Thousand Oaks — sometimes on the wrong side of the road — before a California Highway Patrol car bumped it Friday morning, making it spin out.

The driver was ordered from the car at gunpoint and arrested. His name wasn't immediately released.

The 35-minute chase began when a CHP officer tried to stop the motorist for reckless driving at around 8:15 a.m. in the San Fernando Valley. The car took off, zoomed west along U.S. 101 and nearly hit a school bus before it finally was stopped in Ventura County.
