After being swept this past weekend in a three game series, The Master’s College baseball team received good news Monday.

TMC will host a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament regional May 9-13.

“We’re overjoyed with the opportunity to host one site of the national tournament,” said Mustang head coach Monte Brooks. “Santa Clarita is a baseball community and we hope to embrace the fans in the area, from college fans down to little league. We hope they’d come enjoy high-caliber baseball.”

As hosts, TMC automatically qualifies for the national tournament, their first tournament berth since 2009.

TMC can still win the Golden State Athletic Conference, which also would’ve resulted in a berth, and they would’ve likely received an at-large bid otherwise. But hosting gives them an advantage.

“We know our field best and guys coming in from other parts of the country may not be acclimated to our weather or the wind at Master’s,” said Mustang catcher Chris Talley.

The NAIA won’t announce the other teams in TMC’s regional until after conference tournament play. But whichever teams come to Newhall, they’ll be the only ones standing between the Mustangs and their first World Series appearance since 2000.
