Pegi Matsuda has been appointed as the Chairwoman of the Valley Economic Development Center’s board of directors, where she has served on the board for the past 10 years.

Matsuda’s appointment as the first woman to hold this position marks a first in VEDC’s 37-year history, said a spokesman for the organization.

She is currently the Senior Vice President, Community and Market Development for Valley Presbyterian Hospital, where she oversees community programming and outreach, marketing, advertising, employee volunteer programs, development, media relations and internal communications.

Prior to joining the hospital, Matsuda served as publisher and president of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal for 13 years, and spent 20 years in numerous leadership programs with Southern California corporations including GTE Telephone Operations and Sempra Energy.

Matsuda also serves as a board member for VICA and a member of the board of trustees for Woodbury University in Burbank.
