Three men were arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly stealing more than $950 worth of metal from an old refinery in Newhall, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Lt. John Rush said the arrests occurred after sheriff’s deputies were tipped off to some suspicious activity near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Clampitt Road.

After questioning the three men at the scene, deputies arrested them at 2p.m., Rush said.

“Since the value of the metal exceeded $950, the men will be booked for grand theft,” Rush said.

Rush said he did not know what type of metal was stolen from the refinery.

The names of the suspects have not been released.
