Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita

Despite reports to the contrary, Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, has no plans to retire at the end of his term in 2014, a spokeswoman said Friday.

“This is a product of the political rumor mill,” McKeon spokeswoman Alissa McCurley said of reports that McKeon would leave office after his current term ends. “The congressman has no plans to retire at this time.”

A post from the online blog Flash Report claimed that McKeon has been “quietly telling key folks that he may retire” when his current congressional term ends in 2014.

McCurley said no such decision has been made.

“It’s business as usual,” she said. “We’re out there fundraising and focusing on the issues facing the 25th (Congressional) District.”

McKeon, 74, was elected to his 11th term in the district in November. He was also recently appointed to his third stint as the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Due to congressional rules, McKeon is not allowed to serve as chairman of that committee if he is re-elected again.
