Santa Clarita City Council members voted this week to approve a five-year, $437,609 contact with the company that oversees the city’s weather-based irrigation controllers.

The company, HydroPoint Data Systems Inc., provides “smart” irrigation controllers that take into account current weather and the topography of an area to determine how much and how often to water landscapes.
About 540 such controllers are installed around the city.

The contract approved Tuesday night will pay HydroPoint up to $437,609 for wireless and data management services. Approving a contract extension now locks in a more favorable rate for the city, according to city staff members.
