Volunteers began work Monday on expanding the Santa Clarita Community Gardens at Central Park in Saugus.

The addition to the gardens, which provide local residents a chance to enjoy personally grown food as part of their meals, will provide about 25 new planting beds, a dozen new fruit trees and a butterfly garden, said Carol Mireles, president of the Garden Council.

Residents can find out more during the city’s Earth Arbor Day celebration Saturday at Central Park.
