Wondering where to get rid of your e-waste? To shed your sharps? To ditch your fluorescent light bulbs, unwanted paint, car batteries or used motor oil?

Saturday is your chance. This year’s free countywide hazardous and e-waste roundup is scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the south parking lot of College of the Canyons.

Co-sponsored by the county Department of Public Works and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County in cooperation with the cities of Santa Clarita, Lancaster and Palmdale, the roundup is aimed at helping residents rid their homes of unwanted items that could be dangerous — and illegal — to discard through standard garbage disposal methods.

These items include various sharps such as hypodermic needles, pen needles, syringes and lancets; hazardous or universal waste such as antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, pesticides, batteries and used motor oil; and e-waste including cellphones, computers, VCRs, stereos and TVs.

Los Angeles County has conducted more than 50 free household waste roundups aimed at providing residents a convenient local opportunity to clean out the cupboards.

Saturday’s event is at College of the Canyons’ Valencia campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.
