A man allegedly threatened a tow-truck driver with a baseball bat and then tried to drive his vehicle off the truck, damaging the truck in the process, a sheriff's official said.

A judge will arraign Mario Giovanni on felony assault charges Wednesday in Santa Clarita Superior Court, Sgt. Ron Price said.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's deputies arrested Giovanni Saturday night following an alleged assault on a tow truck driver, Price said.

Giovanni's car was allegedly parked illegally in the Granada Villa Mobile Homes in Canyon Country and was about to be towed, Price said. That's when Giovanni became irate, he said.

Giovanni confronted the tow-truck driver and allegedly threatened him with a baseball bat, Price said.

Giovanni never struck the driver with the bat, Price said.

When the driver refused to remove Giovanni's car from the tow truck, Giovanni allegedly tried to drive his vehicle off the truck, Price said.

Giovanni was also charged with vandalism, Sgt. Darren Harris said.

Giovanni posted bond Sunday night, Harris said.
