The Mint Canyon Community School Chorus performed its Winter Concert to an audience that was also there to meet and listen to Canyon Country author T. Katz.

Katz, who writes children's books, reminded students of the connection between music and reading.
Following the concert, Katz autographed copies of her books.

"She was nice," second-grader Natalie Leos said. "I liked her stories and I'm excited to read her book. I'm learning the piano like the character in her story."

Sixth-grader Cami Soto liked meeting the author as well.

"She was right in front of us. She taught us what her books were about," Cami said.

School chorus member, Jade Vizza, a fifth-grader, thought it was interesting.

"We got to help demonstrate special musical sounds," Jade said.

Daniel Jauregui, a sixth-grade member of the chorus, said they sang four songs.

"We practiced since we came back from winter break. I was nervous and mostly happy about singing in front of a live audience," Daniel said.

"I think we should thank Mrs. Hitsman, our music teacher, for teaching us and allowing us to inspire more kids to like music."

Sixth-grader Jenny Escamilla liked listening to the chorus.

"It helps me to learn music more. I admire my friends for joining chorus and singing in front of people," she said.

"I enjoyed the first chapter of the author's book. It made me want to read the rest of the story."
