A Valencia man suspected of a string of burglaries at Westfield Valencia Town Center was arrested sipping a beer at Castaic Lake park, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy said Tuesday.

The man, Jonathan Christopher Wasteney, was arrested by Sheriff’s Parks Bureau deputies around 9 p.m. Friday after he was found drinking a beer at Castaic Lake State Recreational Area, according to Deputy Paul D. Schrader.

After running a check on Wasteney, deputies found that he was suspected in several burglaries that took place at the Sears store in Westfield Valencia Town Center from March 1 to March 28, Schrader said.

Property stolen during that time was valued around $600, Schrader said.

Deputies also discovered Wasteney had an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property.

He was arrested and booked for investigation of burglary and possession of stolen property at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Schrader said.
