One member of the duo charged with using a shotgun to rob a Valencia home-improvement store pleaded no contest to a charge of grand theft Tuesday and will serve 16 months in county jail, a court official said.

Michelle Krueger, 27, made the plea during an appearance in San Fernando Superior Court on Tuesday.

She has been sentenced to 16 months in county jail as a result of the plea, according to a court clerk.

Krueger and her companion, 29-year-old Nicholas Escarcega, were both charged with using a shotgun to rob a Home Depot store on Newhall Ranch Road on Sept. 5.

The couple allegedly entered the store about 5:15 p.m., revealed that they were carrying a 12-gauge shotgun, stole some merchandise and fled, a sheriff’s lieutenant said in September.

The pair allegedly made off with about $1,000 in stolen hardware.

Escarcega and Krueger were arrested during a traffic stop Sept. 12, said Deputy Joshua Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at the time of the incident.
