Members of the board of directors for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted to prioritize a series of transportation projects, including construction work on Interstate 5, during their meeting last week.

Among those projects is the completion of the I-5 carpool lane system, which entails construction of new carpool lanes through the Santa Clarita Valley, completing a carpool lane connector from the I-5 to Interstate 405 and finishing another carpool lane connector from the I-5 to Highway 134.

These projects will now “serve as the foundation of a valley wide transportation matrix,” according to a news release from the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, who also serves as the chairman of the Metro board of directors.
