New Assistant Fire Chief Dean G. McGuire

A veteran Los Angeles-area firefighter has been named assistant fire chief for the Los Angeles County Fire Department North Regional Operations Bureau — in effect the new fire chief for the Santa Clarita Valley.

Assistant Fire Chief Dean G. McGuire has been with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 33 years.

A native of Los Angeles, he attended Inglewood High School and El Camino College, majoring in accounting before deciding to become a firefighter.

McGuire served as a paramedic for 10 years and was captain of several fire stations in the Santa Clarita Valley.

He was promoted to battalion chief in 2006 and served in the Battalion 22 office in Canyon Country.

“I have a great regard for this community,” McGuire said in a statement. “I am well acquainted with the vulnerabilities our residents face in the fire-prone areas, and it is a pleasure to work with the highly skilled firefighters who live and work in this valley.”

McGuire lives in Seal Beach with his wife of 22 years, Donna. They have four grown children and one granddaughter.
