With a complete team effort, the Hart Indians boys volleyball team defeated the Golden Valley Grizzlies 3-0 Thursday at Golden Valley High School.

The Indians combined for nine service aces and had at least three players with six kills as they won by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-16.

“We started to play a little more consistent and eliminated some of the unforced errors,” said Hart head coach Kevin Ker.

Tanner Tengberg led Hart (9-5 overall, 2-1 Foothill League) with 11 kills.

The senior largely made his impact in the second game by scoring four kills, including a stretch of three consecutive to extend Hart’s lead to 17-9 in the game.

“Keep going and keep pushing points,” Tengberg said regarding his mind set and rhythm during the match. “We have a lot of depth on the team and it takes a group effort (to win).”

Chris LeClair contributed 28 assists for the Indians, while David Van Name and Adam Marrs added seven and six kills, respectively.

Hart’s Sonny Mueller had eight digs from his libero position.

As for Golden Valley (2-10, 0-3), bright spots included Tristan Murachanian and Bradley Surette.

Murachanian contributed 18 assists and three kills, while Surette added seven kills and two service aces.

“I saw a couple guys gain some confidence on certain plays,” said Golden Valley head coach Derek Saenz. “We have a bunch of guys playing out of position, and that has forced some players to take more leadership.”

While trying to overcome positioning issues, Saenz is also trying to instill more confidence and communication in the squad.

Following Spring Break, the Grizzlies will be back in action on April 9 as they play at West Ranch.

Hart will also resume Foothill League play on that day at home against Valencia.
“It all starts in practice,” Ker said. “If we continue to get one percent better everyday, we’ll be a better team at the very end.”
