Two College of the Canyons students spent their lunch hour in an elevator Thursday after the car got stuck, college officials said.

Shortly after noon Thursday, two male students became trapped in an elevator in Aliso Hall, which overlooks the college baseball field, said Wendy Trujillo, spokeswoman for College of the Canyons.

“The kids were stuck in there for about an hour,” she said. “Campus safety people stayed with them the whole time” outside the stuck doors, she added.

Maintenance staff managed to free the students at 1:15 p.m.

“We have a phone in the elevator which connects them immediately with the switchboard,” Trujillo said.

“They were in contact with our switchboard the whole time,” said Bruce Battle, interim managing director, district communications and marketing at the college.

The college contracts with a company that responds personnel to any elevator incident such as the one Thursday, Trujillo said.
