Supporters of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center kick up their heels at the 2005 Celebrity Waiter Dinner to benefit the Adult Day Care Respite Program.

The stars will be coming out - literally and figuratively - on Saturday, as the SCV Senior Center Foundation hosts the 2009 Celebrity Waiter Dinner to benefit the Adult Day Care Respite Program at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.

The theme for this year's edition of the popular annual event is an "InterGALActic Affair," promising a fun evening of space travel, dining and humor, all to help the Senior Center continue providing vital services to local seniors in need. The Celebrity Waiter Dinner features local celebrities - er, stars - who serve as waiters and waitresses for the evening to entertain event guests and help raise funds for the adult day care program and related caregiver support services. The event is scheduled to land at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Valencia, featuring a red carpet greeting, live entertainment and a live auction.

"This event has been one of the ‘shining stars' in the Santa Clarita Valley for many years," said Kathy Crone, director of development for the SCV Senior Center. "It's always one of the most enjoyable community events of the year, and what's great is, while the guests are having such a good time, they are also addressing a very serious need in our community."

The adult day care program provides licensed and professional supervision for for individuals with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, post-stroke challenges and other chronic conditions that may require constant supervision. The program also provides a valuable respite for caregivers who may need a break from the daily stresses of providing care, or may need time to take care of other errands and business.

The Celebrity Waiter dinner is a primary fundraiser for the Senior Center Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to raise money to support Adult Day Care, Home Delivered Meals and other funding needs at the Senior Center. Sponsorships of the event start at $500, and individual tickets are available for $100. Tickets and more information are available at the Foundation Web site, www.scvseniorfoundation.org, by calling the Senior Center at (661) 259-9444 or by e-mail to: info@scvseniorfoundation.org.
