Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released the following statement on the passing of Ophelia McFadden:

“One of Los Angeles County’s most influential labor leaders, Ophelia McFadden was successful because she attacked problems -- not people -- and worked for employee equity with a keen awareness of the county’s fiscal responsibility,” said Antonovich.

McFadden was a leader in the Service Employees International Union and fought for rights for African-American workers and particularly for in-home caregivers.

Services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Praise of Zion Baptist Church in San Pedro.
