A homeschooler’s perspective of extracurricular activities

am a homeschooler. That means that I do my schoolwork at home, but I also take classes.

Here are some of the classes that I am taking, and activities that I’m participating in: tap dancing, softball, ceramics, art, P.E., Lego robotics, math games and voice lessons.

You are probably thinking, "How can you afford all of those classes?"

That is a question I can answer. I belong to Sky Mountain Charter School.

The Charter School gives us funding to pay for my education, including classes.

My family can afford to pay for softball and dance, and the charter school pays for all of the rest.

Some of the classes I take are only for homeschoolers. Many of those classes are at a homeschool learning center called Learn Beyond the Book.

My P.E. Class is also just for homeschoolers, conveniently just before my homeschool park day.

All of the rest of my classes and activities are with both homeschoolers and school kids. Sometimes I am the only homeschooler.

One of the things I really love about homeschooling is that I get to spend a lot of time at home with my family.

Being with my parents, and playing with my brother and little sister is fun!

However, I really like going to classes too because I feel independent and more grown-up.

I look forward to all of the classes that I’ll be taking in the future. Maybe I’ll see you there. Keep on learning!
