A Castaic man wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and attempted homicide was in custody Tuesday after local sheriff’s deputies arrested him following a brief pursuit.

The man, whose identity had not been released Tuesday evening, was wanted by Los Angeles Police Department officers for a confrontation in a bar Monday night in Sunland, LAPD Officer Sara Faden said Tuesday.

“Last night (Monday), this suspect entered a bar on Foothill Boulevard,” she said. “The bar refused to serve him and he got irate.

“The suspect hit a patron with a bag, causing serious injury to that patron,” she said.

It’s not known what was in the bag that was heavy enough to cause the injury, she added.

The victim was taken to a hospital, Faden said.

“Our gang officers and officers with our Foothill Division moved swiftly to identify the suspect, who lives in the Santa Clarita area,” she said.

“Our detectives reached out to the Santa Clarita (Valley) Sheriff’s Department,”

Local deputies kept a watch on the suspect’s house and followed him Tuesday morning when he was seen getting into his vehicle, Faden said.

The suspect at first refused to pull over, and a pursuit ensued.

Deputies followed the suspect down Interstate 5 from Castaic to Sylmar, where he was pulled over at the interchange of I-5 and Highway 14 around 11:20 a.m. and detained for LAPD officers, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s Lt. Mark Hershey said.

“The suspect gave up willingly,” Faden said.
