A parolee sought by the Los Angeles Police Department was chased on foot through an alley behind local businesses in Saugus Thursday after LAPD officers followed him to the Santa Clarita Valley, a local sheriff’s spokesman said.

Shortly after noon Thursday, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies received a call for help from LAPD officers searching for the parolee they had followed to Saugus from Los Angeles, said sheriff’s Lt. John Rush.

“The LAPD were trying to locate a parolee at large,” he said. “A foot pursuit ensued and it turned out to be a short foot pursuit.

“The parolee didn’t realize there was an LAPD officer behind him,” he said.

The parolee was cornered and nabbed behind the Verizon Wireless store on Copper Hill Drive. Local deputies helped the LAPD apprehend the suspect within about 20 minutes.
