A big rig caught fire in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Lyons Avenue today, slowing traffic and shutting down the freeway’s slow lane, a fire official said.

Shortly after 4 p.m., officials with both the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol received reports of a big rig on fire on the right shoulder of the freeway at Lyons, Fire Department Inspector Bernard Peters said.

“There were some concerns about a possible brush fire,” he said.

As of 5:30 p.m., the fire was extinguished, a CHP officer said. The brush did not catch fire and no one was injured.
Traffic was stopped in the slow lane while firefighters responded to the blaze.
