Good patrol work led to the arrest of a young man on probation this morning when a local sheriff’s deputy stopped him and found seven pieces of identification — none of which belonged to the man, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Deputy J. Muralles of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s was on patrol in the area of Hidaway Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road on Wednesday morning when he spotted someone he knew was on probation, said Lt. Mark Hershey.

“He recognized him from a previous arrest and stopped him,” he said. “(The suspect) had seven different credit cards and miscellaneous ID cards, not in his name.”

Muralles arrested the young man on suspicion of possessing stolen property, Hershey said.

Shortly after 11 a.m., on the way to the sheriff’s station, Muralles made contact with one of the people identified by the cards recovered.

“The victim said, ‘Yeah, my stuff was stolen,’” Hershey said.

The suspect, 19-year-old Nick Scarnachia, was charged with possession of stolen property, Hershey said.
