Burglars stole more than $40,000 in firefighting equipment from storage containers at the U.S. Forest Service’s Texas Canyon station, officials said today.

The items taken included about 30 chain saws, four generators, an arc welder and various hand tools, said USFS spokesman Nathan Judy.

The theft was reported early Tuesday by firefighters at the station. The chain-link fence surrounding the storage containers had been cut and the containers broken into, Judy said.

No suspects have been identified in the theft.

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call Forest Service law enforcement and investigations at 626-574-5356.
