Canyon junior quarterback Cade Apsay received his first scholarship offer Thursday from the University of Arizona, according to Canyon head coach Rich Gutierrez.

Apsay passed for 3,333 yards and 39 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in 2012.

He was selected as the Foothill League’s 2012 Offensive Player of the Year, was a Signal All-Santa Clarita Valley First-Teamer and was named to the CalHiSports.com All-State Junior Third Team.

“Cade’s a fantastic kid. I love him to death. He’s humble. He works hard. He’s a special kid,” Gutierrez said. “I would think (this is the first of many offers) because his fundamentals, his meachanics. After the year he had, the leadership he demonstrates, he’s a special kid.”

Arizona gave Canyon record-breaking wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky one of his first offers around the same time last year. Wolitarsky eventually signed with Minnesota.

The Wildcats went 8-5 last year overall and 4-5 in thePac-12 and defeated Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl.
