Saugus, Zone 4 Update, Public Safety & Crime Prevention Information Snapshot: 02/25/2013 - 03/03/2013

Good afternoon Saugus. There were five reported Part-1 crimes in the Saugus area this week. The first was a residential burglary in the 21700 block of Redwood Court between Sunday, 02/24/2013 through Wednesday, 02/27/2013. Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s open garage and stole a high end bicycle. There was a trend from April to June of last year where a ring of criminals were targeting homes where the garages had been left open. In most of those incidents high end bicycles were taken. Detectives are working on identifying the suspect(s) in these latest thefts. Stay aware.

There was a battery with great bodily injury in the 23000 block of Drayton Street on Sunday, 03/03/2013, at 12:45 a.m. The incident started when two men staying at the location got into an argument over sleeping arrangements. The incident escalated resulting in a physical altercation. One of the people involved was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

There was a grand theft in the 27700 block of Sumner Avenue on Thursday, 02/28/2013. The victim received a call from a person impersonating her grandson. The victim said the suspect asked her to forward money to an account for him because he was in trouble. The victim, believing that she was helping her grandson, forwarded the money. The victim later learned that the person she had talked to was not her grandson.

There was a petty theft from the 28500 block of Deer Springs Drive on Tuesday, 02/26/2013, at 3:50 p.m. An alert citizen witnessed a female steal a package from the porch of his neighbor’s house. The suspect first denied taking anything when confronted by the witness. The suspect later returned to the victim’s residence and returned the item she stole. Detectives are working on identifying the suspect. Thanks to the work of an alert citizen the victim was able to get their property back and we now have workable information to help the Sheriff’s Department arrest the thief.

A crime reported this past week actually occurred in the beginning of the month on Tuesday, 02/08/2013. The victim had two bicycles stolen from the underground parking area of an apartment complex in the 22900 block of Oakridge Drive. Detectives are working on identifying those responsible for recent thefts from this complex.
