Las Lomas is dead

Las Lomas is dead.

Los Angeles City Council voted 10-5 this morning to support a motion put forward by Councilmember Greig Smith to stop all work being done on the plan to put 5,553 housing units into the steep hillside off The Old Road, near the intersection of California State Highway 14 and Interstate 5.

The argument over Las Lomas hinged on fears expressed by some councilmembers that the City of Los Angeles would risk being sued if it pulled the plug on the project.

In the end, Smith reassured his colleagues when he reminded them that City Hall won a lawsuit filed over the similar cancellation of a building development.
