A motorist rolled his car several times Thursday after he reportedly pulled onto the gravel shoulder to let a “tailgater” pass on San Francisquito Canyon Road, said a man who towed the wrecked car from the crash site.

Shortly after 10:15 a.m. Thursday, a man driving a 2003 Toyota Avion lost control when he pulled over because another car was following too closely, said Al Furman Jr. of Al Furman & Sons Towing.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol called Furman to remove the wrecked car, specifically requesting a flatbed truck with at least 50 feet of tow cable.

The car ended up off of San Francisquito Canyon Road, about seven miles north of Copper Hill Drive, near Power Plant No. 2.

“The car was 60 feet off the road in a drainage ditch,” said Furman. “He (the driver) said he was being tailgated so he pulled over onto the shoulder and it was dirt.

“The car went sideways and flipped,” he said.

Furman said the driver was not hurt in the rollover.
