Plans for a new park near Bridgeport Marketplace are set to move forward after a unanimous vote by the Santa Clarita City Council.
Under terms of the agreement ratified Tuesday night, Bridgeport Marketplace will transfer to the city approximately 2.6 acres of land at the northwest corner of Newhall Ranch Road and Grandview Drive as a park location.
An additional 2.4 acres will be transferred to nearby Real Life Church to construct additional parking.
The parking will accommodate visitors to Bridgeport Marketplace, Real Life Church and the park.
Real Life Church will foot the cost of constructing the park, according to the terms of the agreement. The city will, in turn, be responsible for the costs of operating the park, such as maintaining an irrigation system, said Rick Gould, the city’s director of parks, recreation and community services.
The time frame for construction was not specified.
“We got through the administration portion,” Gould said. “Now we get into the nuts and bolts of the agreement.”
One of the factors that drove the agreement was the presence of an earthquake fault through the property, limiting options for enclosed structures such as bathrooms, he said.
The city will, however, look at building a gazebo or other type of shade structure, he said.
