Trial was put off until March today for a couple who allegedly held up a Valencia home-improvement store with a shotgun last September, a court clerk said.

Nicholas Escarcega, 29, and Michelle Krueger, 27, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court on Wednesday for the first day of their trial, but the court case was postponed until March, the clerk said Wednesday.

The couple was ordered to stand trial on charges following a preliminary hearing in January.

On Sept. 5, a man and a woman armed with a shotgun robbed the Home Depot store on Newhall Ranch Road and made off with about $1,000 in stolen hardware, a spokesman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said at the time.

The couple entered the store about 5:15 p.m., revealed that they had a 12-gauge shotgun, stole some merchandise and fled, a sheriff’s lieutenant said in September.

Escarcega and Krueger were arrested during a traffic stop Sept. 12, Deputy Joshua Dubin said at the time of the incident.

Escarcega remains in custody at Pitchess Detention Center East Facility on $300,000 bail.

Krueger, held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, was in custody on $90,000 bail.
