Two burglars, one brandishing a crowbar, startled a Valencia resident today when they tried to break into her home in an attempted “hot prowl” burglary, a local sheriff’s spokesman said.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., two men dressed entirely in black tried to break into a house on Via Gavola near Valencia Glen Park, said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The guy was trying to get into the house,” he said. “One of the guys was carrying a crowbar.

“I don’t think they got in,” Hershey said.

The woman was not hurt, he said.

The confrontation happened at the side door of the house, Hershey said.

Deputies dispatched to the area, scoured the neighborhood, checking streets near Orchard Village Road and the paseos near Valencia Glen Park.

Both suspects were described as young men, each wearing a black shirt, black pants and black shoes. One of them wore a black hoody, the other a black beanie.

The two burglars ran in different directions after they confronted the woman, one seen running towards Via Helina and the other east on Gavola towards the paseo.

At 5 p.m., deputies were still trying to find the two suspects, said Lt. Tom Bryski.

A “hot prowl burglary” is one in which the burglar enters an occupied residence, according to local deputies.
