West Ranch senior Kevin Harris was selected by coaches as The Foothill League's 2013 Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

It’s sort of a no-brainer for West Ranch boys basketball player Kevin Harris.

The senior guard said he’d rather still be playing in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

But being named the 2013 Foothill League Boys Basketball Player of the Year is an honor he’ll gladly accept.

Harris, who averaged 19 points per game in Foothill League play leading the Wildcats to their first-ever outright league title, was selected for the honor.

It was announced Monday, as were the All-Foothill League teams.

“It means a lot to be recognized for all hard work,” Harris said. “It felt like I accomplished a lot — putting my name out there (our team) changed the school and we brought out a lot of supporters. I pretty much have no regrets.”

Harris, a 4.08 GPA student, has one scholarship offer from BYU-Hawaii, but with his talent and skills will likely receive more.

“He’s unbelievable,” said West Ranch head coach Shant Bicakci. “Anything we asked him to do, he did. He never complained about a thing. He’s such a good kid and such a hard worker.”

Helping in guiding the Wildcats to the top of the Foothill League was senior center Ako Kaluna, who leads the list of All-Foothill League first-teamers.

This marks the third time Kaluna has been named a first-teamer.

Joining him were Hart’s exciting backcourt of junior Lewis Stallworth and sophomore Myles Franklin.

Valencia was represented by senior guard Riley Honaker.

Canyon sophomore guard Ben Taufahema was also named a first-teamer.

Finishing the list was Golden Valley senior Leon Jacobs, who in his first year in the Santa Clarita Valley has been named to two All-Foothill teams, including his second-team selection in football.

Two Saugus and two Canyon players were named second teamers.

Saugus junior forward Amir Mirtabatabaie and junior guard Jacob Tobon received the top honors for the Centurions.

Canyon forward Dean Hendrix-Davis was a second-teamer, as was junior guard Marc Cabrera.

Valencia senior forward Garrett Mike and West Ranch sophomore point guard Ryan Beddeo finished off the list.

Honorable mentions were Canyon junior Mark Bell, Golden Valley sophomore Dominic Gully, Hart senior Stanley Wilder, Saugus senior Chris Lockwood, Valencia junior Jaleel Howard and West Ranch senior Kyle Williams.
