A perfect weekend for the Oscars

Who has money on "Argo to win it all at tonight’s 85th annual Academy Awards? This is the first year I’ve not seen a majority of the Oscar contenders. I am hoping to watch a few on pay-per-few and DVD before the Awards begin tomorrow evening.

The weather seems to be cooperating as well, and I imagine that scenes of warm, sunny California will entice some folks from the blizzard-covered mid_West to head out our way.

It looks like the weather, and the wind, will be ramping up in the next week. It’s time to find a kite to fly!

I remember flying kites as a child. It was always great fun. I remember working for weeks on a bright, green kite. I balanced the tail, got the string to flow effortlessly and this was a kite among kites! It flew higher than any kite I had ever owned. It was an amazing kite.

A friend stopped by my house one day and accidently stepped on the kite — snapping it’s fragile infrastructure.

So much for my magic, wonderful kite. I tried to repair it. But it never flew the same again.

March in our sights

February seems even shorter than its 28 days this year!

March is around the corner and the high social season will be upon us!

Old Town Farmers Market

Each Thursday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market features some of the region’s best farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and other specialty food items. Last year I really enjoy the tamales, the bread and the pulled pork. I hope those vendors return this year!
