The event began with a slideshow presentation of the history of Mint Canyon school by former Principal Sherry Klein.
There have been a lot of changes in the last 75 years.
The first Mint Canyon School opened in 1915 and the PTA started in 1933, hence the 75th Anniversary.
Then, in 1935 the school was rebuilt after it burned down.
The current site of Mint Canyon Community School opened in 1963 and in 2003, Mint Canyon was remodeled, and reopened its doors in 2005.
Parents, students' family members and faculty members submitted 19 entries for the Chili Cook-Off.
Everyone got a chance to sample the chilis and vote for their favorite.
"Some of the chili was super-duper spicy and some of it was so hot, it numbed my mouth, but most of it was delicious," student Kyra Holmquist said.
Student Juan Loaiza cheered.
"Very Good. My stomach will not thank me tomorrow," Juan said.
Many people enjoyed the variety of tastes available from sweet-and-sour to hot-and-spicy.
Most of all, people came out in the rain and had a great time.
Carmen Gomez won the grand prize.
Sixth-grade students also worked at the event to sell handmade jewelry by Shirley Collins.
This was to help raise money for their sixth-grade trip at the end of the year.
Student Cami Soto said, "The sales are going great," and she was right.
While there was lots to celebrate, most people will admit that they came for the chili.
As sixth-grader Victoria Roberson put it, "I'm looking forward to the next Chili Cook-Off."
The writers are sixth-grade Mint Canyon students.
