Despite the swift efforts by emergency crews, a 6-year-old girl died Thursday in Canyon Country after she was found not breathing in a home, a local sheriff’s spokesman said.

Investigators with the coroner’s office say it will be at least a few weeks before they know what caused the girl’s death.

The victim’s identity was not released Thursday, a coroner’s spokeswoman said.

Shortly after 6:20 a.m. Thursday, emergency response crews, including Los Angeles County paramedics, rushed to a house on Camelot Court, a tiny cul-de-sac near Shangri-La Drive in Canyon Country, on a report of a child not breathing, said Sgt. Rich Nagler of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The initial call we had was for a cardiac arrest to the 8600 block of Camelot,” Fire Department Inspector Quvondo Johnson said. “We transported one patient to hospital.”

Paramedics drove the child to the hospital and arrived shortly after 7 a.m., Johnson said.
