Jumping over fences, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies chased down and captured a burglary suspect Wednesday in Canyon Country.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to reports of a young man seen climbing out of a window at a dental office in the area of Rainbow Glen Drive and Soledad Canyon Road, a Sheriff’s Department official said.

A frantic call to dispatchers from one deputy described the suspected burglary as a man wearing a black shirt and black pants “hopping a fence” at Soledad.

Instantly, backup units descended on the area to help the deputy running after the suspected burglar through backyards and into the east side of the Parkland Estates Mobile Home Park north of Soledad at Langside Avenue, the Sheriff’s Department official said.

Deputies, including the one who set off on foot after the suspect, concentrated their search east of Discovery Park on Langside near Delight Street.

They set up a containment area around suburban homes on Langside and Delight when the suspect was again spotted coming out of a home and hopping another fence, the said.

At 5:30 p.m., one deputy reported holding the suspect at gunpoint on the roof of a Delight Street home.
A young man was then taken into custody. His identity was not immediately released.
