LAKE ELSINORE (AP) — A former councilman for the Southern California city of Lake Elsinore has been found slain in his home.
Riverside County sheriff's investigators said Sunday that 77-year-old George Alongi's body had traumatic injuries when it was found Friday.
No further details were released.
Alongi had a combative reputation while on the City Council from 1992 to 1999, when a judge ordered him removed from office because of 14 conflicts of interest.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/12XcCLt) Alongi didn't adequately disclose that he owned properties in the city's redevelopment area, while continuing to vote on redevelopment matters.
In 1997, the California Fair Political Practices Commission fined Alongi $6,500 on several issues, including yelling at a building inspector who refused to approve a gas line on a property he was renovating.
