A man was detained earlier this afternoon after allegedly stealing a car near Newhall Ranch Road, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Sgt. Rich Nagler with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said the suspect, an adult man, allegedly took the BMW-model car from a garage.

Sheriff’s officials were first alerted to the alleged theft around 11 a.m. and discovered the car shortly after 1 p.m., Nagler said.

The suspect will be charged with the theft later today, Nagler said.
