Two playoff games and two impressive victories this week has the Hart Indians boys soccer team looking like it is peaking at the right time.

Hart wore down the Beverly Hills Normans with constant offensive pressure on the way to a 2-0 win in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs on Friday at Beverly Hills High.

It was the same score Hart won by two days ago against Workman High in the wild-card round.

“I feel pretty confident right now and hopefully we can (keep) finishing our chances,” said Hart head coach Adonay Jovel.

On Friday, the Indians (15-5-3 overall) had plenty of opportunities, and they cashed in on just enough of them to knock off the Ocean League champion Beverly Hills (15-6-2).

David White scored on a header off a Jonny Rose throw-in in the 20th minute to give Hart a 1-0 lead.

Despite the fact that the Normans held a size advantage, the Indians were quicker and they were able to keep the ball away from Beverly Hills’ primary scorers.

“The possession was there,” Jovel said. “We still possessed the ball, but we were just able to put the ball in the net.”

Riley Waldeck doubled Hart’s lead when he knocked the ball in off a deflection in the 60th minute.

The goal came as a result of Beverly Hills’ formation change, which left its backline vulnerable.

“They pushed up more people but they left a lot of ball in spaces on the outside,” Jovel said.

In the second round on Wednesday, Hart will face either Santa Paula or Bellflower.
