It brings the point home that all the hearings and reports have failed to guarantee anything to the city of Santa Clarita in return for allowing medical office buildings, their associated parking structures, disastrous traffic impact and the deleterious effects to the aesthetics of a beautiful, planned neighborhood.
I have never seen published the original wording in the land grant that created the nonprofit site for a community hospital. I am sure that a giant medical office complex was not its intent.
I cannot believe that it is even legal to build for-profit buildings on not-for-profit land.
Where are the watchdogs for our community? Have they all gone the way of the financial overseers that allowed the current economic crisis?
I can only hope that there is still some integrity in our elected officials and that they modify the proposed hospital expansion to a more reasonable scope and guarantee that beds are added and not just unneeded office space.
