Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department detectives arrested a man in Saugus on Thursday for allegedly stealing from women after romancing them online, a sheriff’s official said.

Jeffrey Elvington, 39, was arrested at a Saugus home where detectives also served a search warrant.

“We have currently identified five victims and expect the suspect has contacted many other women over the last two years,” said sheriff’s Sgt. James Anderson in a news release. Four of the five victims identified so far are residents of the Santa Clarita Valley, Anderson said.

Elvington allegedly masqueraded as a chef, military man, private investigator or some other professional and courted women online through dating services such as, the sergeant said.

After meeting with the women, he would steal credit card information from them and use it to buy high-end electronics to sell later, Anderson said. He also allegedly stole property from his victims.

Elvington was arrested on burglary charges.

Investigators are seeking additional victims. Anyone who knows of another woman victimized in the case was asked to call Sgt. Anderson at (661) 255-1121.
