Opinion on gun control

On Monday afternoon, Feb. 11, I had the honor of attending Congressman Buck McKeon’s 2nd Amendment Conference at Valencia’s Salt Creek Restaurant.

This meeting included numerous influential Santa Clarita citizens — prominent businessmen and women, Mayor Bob Kellar, etc.

I presented the following comments at this outstanding event:

As a Vietnam Veteran I came to know a number of Gold Star families of friends lost in battle and I have come to know several Gold Star families right here in Santa Clarita these past few years. And, like many of you I also have friends who have lost their sons and daughters to various tragic accidents.

The one thing that these folks all have in common, along with those families who have fallen prey to depraved people in our society, is that they really never ever get over the grief of losing a loved one – their child.

I personally know Moms and Dads who have literally gone to their graves possessing immense sorrow and despondency…

So, my attitude about gun control is this:

Do not further impact legal gun ownership in any manner

Fiercely enforce existing gun laws

Enforce strict penalties on those who use guns to perpetuate crimes

Stop going soft on crime

Do not allow criminals early out sentences

And finally (this is from my brother Bob, also a Veteran), turn off the damn air conditioning and TV for prisoners and make their prison stay as uncomfortable as humanly possible.

Just remember, criminals always had the option of NOT violating laws.
