A woman was injured and taken to the hospital this morning after her car hit a pole and went down an embankment on Vasquez Canyon Road in Canyon Country, fire officials said.

About 11:20 a.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol received reports of a roll-over crash on Vasquez Canyon just west of Sierra Highway.

Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the crash, said a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The solo vehicle crash occurred after the Volkswagen hit a pole, officials said.

The silver-colored Volkswagen Beetle went over the side of the road and about 20 feet down a small embankment, the Fire Department spokesman said.

The motorist had to be cut free of the wreckage, he said.

Paramedics placed the injured woman on a stretcher and took her to a local hospital.

CHP officers closed Vasquez Canyon Road to traffic while emergency crews tended to the woman and removed the damaged car, the CHP confirmed.
