A Lancaster carjacking sparked a police chase into the Santa Clarita Valley Monday night and ended with a foot chase through the backyards of homes in Saugus, officials from two sheriff’s stations said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., sheriff’s deputies in Lancaster and Palmdale received reports of a motorist wanted in connection with a car stolen in Lancaster, said Deputy of Jay Wolfe of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

“The carjacking originally started in Lancaster,” she said. “Then Palmdale pursued the vehicle ultimately to Santa Clarita.”

When the pursued car entered the Santa Clarita Valley, local sheriff’s deputies were alerted, said SCV Sheriff’s Station Deputy Josh Dubin.

“The car was pursued by Palmdale through Leona Valley, popping out at Bouquet Canyon Road,” Dubin said.
“Santa Clarita deputies deployed a spike strip and assisted in the pursuit,” he said.

Local sheriff’s cruisers did not participate in the road chase, he said, but deputies joined in the foot chase after the suspected carjacker jumped out of his car in Saugus.

“There was a foot pursuit involving Santa Clarita deputies,” he said. “The guy got out of his car and started running through backyards.”

One man was arrested near Urbandale Avenue and Kingscrest Drive, taken to Lancaster and booked, Dubin said.
